1. SCOPE OF IMPLEMENTATION IS NOT CLEAR
Normally, when signing a deployment contract, enterprises and suppliers will have terms to recognize the scope of a deployment. If the scopes are not detailed, clear, and complete, when starting the implementation phase, businesses will face many problems that arise outside the scope.
If it is not managed, it may incur additional time, implementation costs, additional functions, etc., leading to the project being prolonged, delayed, or worse, terminated.
2. INEXPERIENCE US SUPPLIER
Choosing the right supplier and solution is a decisive criterion for the success of the project. A good, suitable solution, but the supplier’s lack of manpower with experience in your industry can lead to inappropriate advice.
3. THE PROCESS IS NOT CONFIDENTIAL
To operate an ERP system, it is necessary to have a clear and consistent process between departments in the company. Therefore, when starting to deploy, businesses need to work with suppliers to standardize processes, unify and issue them to departments before taking the next step. Failure to agree on the process that goes through the next steps will affect the tasks and roles of the departments on the system.
4. TOO MANY CHANGES, CHANGES
International ERP software gives businesses a standard version, with no customizations. However, when implemented, new requirements will arise, customized to be more suitable for businesses. Failure to manage customizations well, or custom development that affects the logic of the system will affect the project.
5. HUMAN RESPONSIBILITIES
Many ERP projects fail because businesses do not prepare and predict the responsiveness of human resources. Many businesses when implementing ERP have a large change in human resources, leading to retraining. Or human resources do not meet the requirements, are slow to change, and absorb new knowledge.
6. EXPECTATIONS DON’T MATCH ACTUALITY
A new system will hardly be able to fully meet the company’s needs. Don’t expect too much from an almighty system. Enterprises should focus on the main goals for the system to handle those problems.
7. IMPLEMENTATION TIME TOO LONG
Due to many reasons, the project implementation time is long. Typically an ERP project takes from 6 months to more than 1 year to complete depending on the scope of the project. A long project causes psychological frustration, employees have to work at high intensity continuously, causing fatigue, or employees may forget the parts that have been trained.
8. IMPLEMENTATION COST IS GROWING
The longer the time, the wider the scope, the higher the cost of implementation. When costs exceed the budget, a re-evaluation of the project is required.
9. DETERMINATION OF THE BOARD OF MANAGEMENT
Business leaders play an important role in project progress. When leaders do not show determination and transmit it to the implementation department, all assigned tasks will be stagnant and superficial.
10. CONFLICTS OF INTEREST ONLY
When applying a system, many issues of conflict of interest will arise. It is necessary to harmonize the interests of the project participants to ensure that the conflict is not too severe, affecting the working attitude and resources for the project.
For example: when implementing a DMS project, the leadership wants to track the sales route of employees, to ensure that the salespeople are on the right line, with the right audience, at the right location. However, the sales team thinks that as long as the sales target is achieved, it is fine.
