Aerobiotix, Inc. develops, manufactures, and supplies professional air treatment systems for the healthcare market. Since 2013, the company has actively partnered with healthcare administrators and facilities across the United States to assess air quality issues, set goals, and propose suitable solutions through thorough cost–benefit analyses.
“We asked Epicor to implement the system ahead of schedule because it would make the company far better than our old system. The Epicor professionals delivered—and far exceeded our expectations.”
— Michael Schmitz, Chief Financial Officer, Aerobiotix
In May 2017, Aerobiotix launched the Illuvia 500UV HEPA-UV air recirculation system, aiming to capture 5% of the U.S. hospital system market within two years. This goal was backed by studies showing the device could eliminate 99% of bacteria and viruses from spores in a single filtration pass.
“We design safe, efficient, and cost-effective devices to address air quality issues and meet quality standards,” Schmitz said. “Many products only sanitize surfaces, while our system continuously removes airborne pathogens that cause infections. This not only improves healthcare quality but also creates growth opportunities through the development and distribution of advanced, effective air treatment solutions.”
“Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality,” he continued. “There are about 290,000 surgical site infections (SSIs) in the U.S. annually, costing an estimated $8.36 billion.
Boosting Internal Efficiency
According to Schmitz, these ambitious goals were tied to the need for improved internal operational efficiency. As a startup in a virtually untapped market, Aerobiotix lacked the ability to accurately track inventory, sales, purchasing, and shipping activities. Drawing from his previous experience, Schmitz chose Epicor’s Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to achieve this vision.
Designed to standardize data utilization and centralize business operations within a fully integrated, web-based environment, the system enables order management and operations without on-site maintenance, while also offering virtual support as needed.
“We didn’t even consider another system,” Schmitz shared. “At my previous company, Epicor helped us sustain 30% annual revenue growth for six years. I firmly believe this solution is key to making us a better company—achieving more business goals and opening new markets. Initially, I was hesitant about a cloud-based solution, but its performance has been outstanding.”
Cloud-Based Process Tracking
Epicor Cloud ERP officially went live at Aerobiotix in August 2017 after a rapid two-month implementation. The accelerated timeline was driven by the limitations of the company’s previous software—a basic accounting package with poor inventory management capabilities.
“We asked Epicor to go live early because it would significantly improve operations over our old system,” Schmitz emphasized. “Epicor’s experts delivered—and exceeded expectations.”
One standout feature is Epicor’s hosted management of both live and test databases, with monthly updates drawn from real production data. The system also tracks production processes, statuses, and locations of each air treatment unit through a five-step assembly process. These products are shipped to hospitals, where they serve as both operational systems and inventory hubs for spare parts.
With Epicor Cloud ERP, Aerobiotix can now monitor every unit throughout production and usage cycles across 30 hospitals nationwide. This enables streamlined product and materials rotation, more accurate sales reporting, and automated month-end financial closing.
Staying in Sync
One of the system’s strongest advocates is Jessica Lalich, Inside Sales Manager. While on bed rest for five weeks during a twin pregnancy, she was still able to manage her workload.
“Thanks to Epicor, I didn’t miss a beat,” Lalich shared. “We only have 16 people and are in a critical growth phase. No one can afford to be absent for long. Because the system is cloud-based, I could do almost everything from the hospital as if I were in the office. Logging in gave me instant access to everything—from sales reports to product locations. I could work anytime and even print invoices at the office for colleagues to send out. This is the easiest system I’ve ever used. With Epicor, we’re tracking sales more effectively and evolving into a high-performance company with an outstanding product.”
Looking ahead, Aerobiotix plans to fully integrate its sales operations with a CRM package directly connected to Epicor Cloud ERP.
“We believe we’ll be a much larger company in the coming years,” Schmitz concluded. “Epicor is an integral part of everything we do and is fully capable of scaling with our growth.”
