On March 18, 2026, 3S Software was honored to collaborate with Sun Automation and technology partners Aveva, Duong Thanh, and Toan That to successfully host the specialized workshop, “MES for Smart F&B Factories – Performance & ROI.” The event attracted over 30 management representatives from leading enterprises within the Food & Beverage (F&B) manufacturing sector.

At the event, attendees had the opportunity to witness firsthand the application of AI in the coffee roasting process, integrated with AVEVA MES and Epicor ERP for real-time data processing.
The sessions focused on practical challenges regarding operational costs and efficiency, providing businesses with a more intuitive understanding of how data supports decision-making and enhances business performance.
Throughout the program, the content was designed around the “Edge-to-Enterprise” architecture for Smart F&B Factories, strictly following the ISA-95 5-layer model. Rather than presenting isolated components, the workshop guided participants through every layer of the system – from the shop floor to top-level management – leveraging specialized partner expertise to solve specific operational problems through the AVEVA solution ecosystem.
1. Topic: The ERP-to-MES Integration Roadmap & Financial Transparency

Speaker Vo Sau – CEO of 3S Software, shared his expertise on the financial and managerial impact of transitioning to a digital manufacturing environment. His session focused on how the synergy between ERP and MES drives operational excellence, cost control, and scalable growth through real-time data transparency.
Highlighting essential functions such as end-to-end traceability and inventory optimization, he affirmed that MES is the backbone of the Smart Factory for the F&B industry. By adopting these solutions, businesses can ensure compliance with international standards and achieve a holistic “Farm-to-Factory” connection across their entire value chain.
2. Topic: Hybrid Cloud Architecture, AVEVA MES, and AI in F&B Factory Operations

Speaker Mei Dee Khor – Senior Architect at AVEVA, highlighted the pivotal role of integrating MES with Hybrid Cloud and AVEVA CONNECT to optimize performance, quality, inventory, and production planning. She demonstrated how AI-driven analytics and forecasting elevate operational excellence, providing real-world evidence of a 1–2% reduction in downtime, delivering significant cost efficiencies across the entire enterprise.
3. Topic: “From Edge to Enterprise” – Strategic F&B Solutions, Tackling Challenges & Delivering ROI.

Speaker Kenny John Lim – Technical Account Manager at AVEVA, addressed critical F&B challenges, including traceability, raw material costs, logistics, sustainability, and labor shortages. He presented a detailed ROI analysis for a standard MES investment (~$1.2M over 3 years), projecting a total net benefit of $2.36M (a 96% increase). With a break-even point reached in just 0.5–1.8 years, these results are driven by OEE optimization and significant waste reduction.
4. Topic: Digitalizing Operations on a Global Scale

Speaker Ekasit Veerasarn – Senior Channel Account Manager at AVEVA, shared that the implementation of MES at global corporations like Danone and Starbucks is a clear testament to the power of digital transformation in production and operations.
For Danone, the core DANMES model helps their Specialized Nutrition division strictly comply with FDA standards and enables end-to-end traceability within just 2 hours, significantly optimizing productivity and reducing waste. Meanwhile, Starbucks has leveraged MES and automation to manage over 40,000 stores worldwide. This solution establishes a seamless data flow from “Shop floor to top floor,” allowing real-time operational monitoring directly via mobile devices.
5. Topic: Strategic Roadmap for Digital Transformation

Speaker Pham Hong Nghia – Solution Research Director at Sun Automation, alongside the Organizing Committee, provided a strategic roadmap for building Smart F&B Factories. He guided participants through the “Scalability Edge-to-Enterprise” architecture and the ISA-95 5-Layer Solution Stack, demonstrating how the integration of specialized partners and the AVEVA software ecosystem optimizes operations and enterprise-wide digitalization. Additionally, the organizers provided hands-on support to resolve specific operational bottlenecks during the Interactive Q&A and Discussion session.
6. Topic: Artificial Intelligence & The Smart Coffee Roaster

Speaker Lam Quoc Duong – CEO of Mars Roaster (Duong Thanh DTC), emphasized the integration of digital transformation and AI into coffee roasting machines. He introduced a “Smart Roasting” workflow that ensures consistent quality and reduces human dependency. Furthermore, he highlighted enhanced safety features, including multi-layer self-monitoring sensors, real-time alerts, and emergency stop protocols, complemented by an automated fire suppression system, all while maintaining absolute data security.
7. Topic: SCADA/EMS Integration & “Clean Data” Preparation Techniques

Speaker Nguyen Minh Quyen – representative of Toan That Co. / Real Group, emphasized the concept of Energy-Aware Manufacturing. He discussed the integration of SCADA data with Energy Management Systems (EMS) to enable production decisions based on real-time consumption, fluctuating electricity prices, and renewable energy availability. Furthermore, he detailed cost-optimization strategies such as Peak Shaving, Load Shifting, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
8. A Message from Sun Automation:

Closing the event, Mr. Le Hong Nhat – Founder and CEO of Sun Automation, expressed his deepest gratitude to all distinguished guests. He reaffirmed that Sun Automation remains a trusted partner, standing ready to support enterprises throughout their digital transformation journey in Vietnam. The CEO also extended a special thanks to strategic partners and F&B representatives, whose presence and collaboration were instrumental in the workshop’s resounding success.
